Wow, it’s July and I officially have a 7 year old kid now.
How did this happen? How did we get this far along? How am I this old?
Time right? It doesn’t hold still for anyone. The minutes pass into hours, days, weeks, years. I barely remember January, let alone bringing my first home from the hospital. Now here he is, with his new video games and a pocket knife. I still hear a little boy in his voice, but his actions are growing up (well some of them). He still reaches for me in the middle of the night, he still needs me to kiss his scraps, but he can totally shower on his own.
So for this month’s five images to tell a story I want to show a little of my son, tell a little of his story at this point in his life.
He is all boy.
A lego fiend that still hasn’t learned to swim. Baseball is becoming a passion, but not enough of a passion to actually practice on a regular basis. Nature is his friend, there to observe and destroy. He balances out the hugs he gives me with the punches he gives his sister and the yelling he gives his father. Dirt seems to be attracted to him in all aspects, from sand to mud to just plain get dirty dirt.
I know it won’t be long before his voice deepens, he longer reaches for me to comfort his bruises and he is moved out into the world. For now, I will remember that this time goes quickly, even when I am yelling at him to go to bed for the 10,000 time.
